Tracking elevation and soil depth by dual isotope analyses

Carbon isotopic values of long-chain n-alkane increase with elevation.

Hydrogen isotopic values of the alkane decrease with elevation.

Carbon isotopic values of long-chain n-alkane decease with depth in soils.


To use these trend, it can be traced to origin of organic matters in sedimentary rocks with respect to elevation and soil depth.
